‘Superman Hew’ Kuan Yaw arrested over GE15 speech No ratings yet.

Police detained a former activist known as Hew Kuan Yaw or ‘Superman Hew’ in Puchong Jaya, Selangor on Wednesday to assist in investigations in relation to his speech at a ceramah during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the man, aged 52, was arrested at 7pm by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), Pahang contingent police headquarters and assisted by the Bukit Aman JSJ.

He said on Nov 17, his team carried out an investigation in the case of viralled video in which Hew, who was one of the campaign speakers, had delivered a speech in Cantonese which is believed to have contained elements that could threaten public order in Raub Perdana, Raub.

“Part of the video recording of the talk has been circulated in the mass media and social media, and received negative reactions from the community,” he said in a statement on Wednesday night.

According to Ramli, the investigation was carried out in accordance with Section 4A of the Election Offences Act 1954 which is the offence of developing ill feelings or enmity and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code which is the offence of issuing statements that could likely cause public alarm.
